Active Shooter Reported at Betty Hardwick Center in Abilene, Texas

Police have reported a suicidal suspect holding a gun to his chest outside the Betty Hardwick Center in Abilene, Texas. The incident began around 9:30 a.m. on Thursday and officers wearing SWAT gear and armed with long rifles have been trying to secure the suspect .

The suspect is located behind the building, which is off S Clack Street. It is currently unknown if he is a client of the Betty Hardwick Center, which is a mental health facility. He has been described only as a 23-year-old male .

Heavy Police Presence at the Scene

At this time, the suspect has only made threats toward himself and no shots have been fired. Multiple employees of the center report being on lockdown as a precaution .

Traffic is being diverted away from S Clack Street and onto Nonesuch Road. Residents in the area are advised to exercise caution and avoid the area if possible.
