Tragic Shooting in Lafayette Leaves Child Dead, Two Officers Injured

A tragic shooting occurred this morning on the 100 block of South General Marshall Street in Lafayette, leaving a child dead and two Lafayette Police officers seriously injured. According to police, two other victims are also in critical condition.

Upon arrival at the scene, responding officers located a residence from which the dispatched call had originated. As they made contact with the parties involved in the altercation, the suspect engaged the officers in gunfire, striking two of them multiple times. An additional responding officer was forced to engage the suspect by returning gunfire.

It was later determined that three additional victims were struck by gunfire during the incident. One of the children later died at the hospital, while the other victims remain in critical condition.

Suspect Taken into Custody, Investigation Ongoing

The suspect was later taken into custody and is currently receiving medical treatment at a local hospital for their injuries. Both injured officers were transported to a local hospital where they are receiving medical treatment and are currently in stable condition.

This is an ongoing investigation, and the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone with photos, videos or information.
