Developing Hostage Crisis: Tractor-Trailer Hijacking Near Dayton International Airport

A tense hostage situation is currently underway near Dayton International Airport in Dayton, Ohio, after a tractor-trailer hijacking. Law enforcement has surrounded the area, responding swiftly to the incident that began in London, Madison County, west of Columbus.

The events unfolded around 1 a.m. Wednesday when police in London attempted to pull over a van for registration and taillight violations. The van, occupied by a man and woman, evaded officers, leading to a pursuit on U.S. 42. Ultimately, the van stopped at the TA Travel Center on U.S. 42.

During a subsequent foot pursuit, the male suspect, believed to be a 54-year-old man, reportedly pointed a loaded firearm at an officer, although no shots were fired. The suspects then commandeered an unlocked tractor-trailer cab at the travel center, where another man and woman were present.

Law Enforcement Negotiates with Suspects

The hijacked tractor-trailer fled the scene, leading to a multi-county chase involving the Ohio Highway Patrol and other agencies across Clark, Greene, and Montgomery counties. The pursuit reached its conclusion in Vandalia on Interstate 70 west near the Dayton International Airport Access Road.

At present, the man and woman inside the tractor-trailer at the time of the hijacking are believed to be hostages. Law enforcement officers are actively working to negotiate with the suspects, seeking a peaceful resolution to the standoff and ensuring the safety of the hostages and the public.
