Five Students Hospitalized After Drinking Unknown Substance at West Philadelphia School

On Wednesday morning, five students between the ages of 14 and 16 were hospitalized after drinking an unknown substance at Crossroads Accelerated Academy in west Philadelphia. The incident occurred around 11:30 a.m., when at least 11 students consumed the substance. While five students were transported to local hospitals for treatment, the other six went home with their families.

The school was placed on lockdown for over an hour as police responded to the scene. The Philadelphia Police Department is now investigating the incident, and as of Wednesday afternoon, it is unknown what was in the substance that the students drank.

Philadelphia School District spokesperson Marissa Orbanek stated that situations like this are taken very seriously as they have the potential to compromise the safe and appropriate learning environment that the district strives to provide to its students every day.
