Teen with Airsoft Rifle Causes Active Shooter Hoax in Anderson
Anderson Police Respond to Reports of Active Shooter
A call to dispatchers reporting an active shooter near a nursing home in Anderson, South Carolina turned out to be a false alarm. According to Anderson police Chief Jim Stewart, the incident was caused by a 16-year-old boy walking down the street shooting off an AR-airsoft rifle.
Law enforcement responded to East Hampton Street around 9 a.m. after receiving reports of an active shooter. However, authorities later learned that the teen had fired several rounds from the airsoft rifle before returning home and getting in the shower.
