Anderson Police Respond to Reports of Active Shooter

A call to dispatchers reporting an active shooter near a nursing home in Anderson, South Carolina turned out to be a false alarm. According to Anderson police Chief Jim Stewart, the incident was caused by a 16-year-old boy walking down the street shooting off an AR-airsoft rifle.

Law enforcement responded to East Hampton Street around 9 a.m. after receiving reports of an active shooter. However, authorities later learned that the teen had fired several rounds from the airsoft rifle before returning home and getting in the shower.

Stewart said that the teen may have been trying to create an alibi by taking a shower. When police arrived at his home, he did not answer the door and was initially thought to be barricaded inside. The teen is now in custody.
