Three Police Officers Shot in Fargo, North Dakota
Fargo Police have announced that Officer Jake Wallin was killed in the line of duty on Friday, July 14. The 23-year-old had been sworn into the Fargo Police Department less than 3 months prior to his death.
Wallin was a military veteran who served in Afghanistan and Iraq. He was a native of St. Michael, Minnesota and a graduate of Alexandria Technical and Community College. He also attended the American Military University and served in the Minnesota Army National Guard.
When sworn in, Chief Dave Zibolski said that Wallin wanted nothing more than to serve in a position with purpose and meaning, and to truly make a difference in the community .
Two Officers in Critical Condition After Shooting in Fargo
The events leading up to Wallin’s death began when Fargo Police officers were investigating a routine traffic accident on 25th Street and 9th Avenue South. The suspect, 37-year-old Mohamed Barakat, started firing at officers. Three officers were shot, including Jake Wallin, Andrew Dotas, and Tyler Hawes .
Fargo Police Officer Zachary Robinson shot and killed the suspect. Robinson was serving as Wallin’s Training Officer at the time .
The incident has left the community shaken. Chief Dave Zibolski expressed his condolences, saying “We lost a good member of our department and good member of our family”.
