Rose Montoya is a transgender model and activist who recently made headlines for going topless at a Pride celebration on the White House South Lawn. The incident was posted to her 103,000 followers on Instagram, along with a follow-up clip in which she defended her actions.
Who is Rose Montoya?
Montoya grew up the daughter of a pastor in a small farm town in Idaho. She began performing in drag during college and came out as transgender in 2015. In 2021, she was named one of “18 LGBTQ+ Policy Makers and Advocates Changing the World” by Out Magazine.
Montoya’s Message
In her follow-up clip on Instagram, Montoya stated that going topless in DC is legal and that she fully supports the movement to free the nipples. She questioned why her chest is now deemed inappropriate or illegal when it was not before she came out as trans.
